SSIS is Suzhou’s old and large international school. The school is a fully authorized IB World School offering a continuous IB curriculum. The challenging core curriculum is focused on an international mindset to cultivate global citizens and life-long learners. Every day 1100+ students (from 49 different nationalities) are challenged to actively participate in their education.

The school was founded over 20 years ago with you in mind. Today, the city of Suzhou is young and vibrant and it is full of expatriates like yourself. All those years ago when Suzhou was being developed, the Chinese and Singapore governments collaborated to strategically build the beautiful and dynamic city. During the development process the team recognized there would be a strong need for an international school to educate the children of the incoming expats. Today, the school are more fondly known as SSIS, Suzhou’s International School and although it no longer teach a Singaporean curriculum, it still keep Singapore in its official name as a reminder of our history.

THE IB PHILOSOPHY

SSIS is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering the IB curriculum from Nursery to Grade 12.

The IB is a highly respected programme of international education that develops the intellectual, personal, emotional and social skills needed to live, learn and work in a rapidly globalizing world.

At SSIS students learn how to learn. Students are able to take responsibility for their own learning and are encouraged to try different approaches to learning.

THE THREE PROGRAMMES:

Primary Years Programme

The Primary Years Programme(PYP), for students from Nursery to Grade 5, prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. It focuses on the development of the whole child. 

Middle Years Programme

The Middle Years Programme(MYP), for students from Grade 6 to 10, is a challenging framework that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world, the MYP is inclusive by design; students of all interests and academic abilities can benefit from their participation.

Diploma Programme

The Diploma Programme(DP), for students in Grades 11 and 12, aims to develop students who have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge – students who flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. The DP is a demanding two-year curriculum leading to final examinations and a qualification that is welcomed by leading universities around the world.

TUITION AND FEES

Fulfilling our mission to provide an excellent international education to the children of expatriate children every day is a big reason we’re considered one of the best international schools in China.

Tuition fees are the only source of funds from which we use to cover all our expenses. When setting our fees, the Board and the Head of School carefully consider a range of issues including affordability, demand, competitiveness with other international schools of SSIS’s caliber, increasing operating expenses, the costs of implementing the IB curriculum, and the need to continue attracting high-quality teachers both locally and internationally. These are just a few of the ways we’re striving to provide the best quality education possible at an exceptionally competitive price.

APPLICATION FEE (NON-REFUNDABLE): RMB 1,500

A one-time, non-refundable application fee applies to newly enrolled students and is valid only for the academic year for which the student is applying. This fee must accompany the SSIS Application Form and an SSIS Placement Assessment Test will be scheduled once the Application Fee is received.

REGISTRATION DEPOSIT (REFUNDABLE): RMB 10,000

A one-time refundable deposit of RMB 10,000 is required for all newly enrolled SSIS students. This is will be invoiced and due with your tuition fees. This deposit is refundable upon leaving SSIS once the proper notification and clearance is granted.

LIBRARY DEPOSIT (REFUNDABLE): RMB 500

A one-time refundable deposit of RMB 500 is required for all students in order to check-out library books and materials. This deposit is refundable upon leaving SSIS and once all borrowed library books and materials are returned.

Families may incur additional costs that vary by child, grade and family need. These charges include, but are not limited to, the following: Bus Transportation, Uniforms, School lunch, Laptop.

APPLICATION PROCESS

STEP ONE: INQUIRE

STEP TWO: SCHEDULE A TOUR

Come and see what the buzz is all about. Visiting our campus is the best way to get a sense of our unique international education, meet some of our teachers and see our students in action.

STEP THREE: APPLY

Simply submit the application along with the application fee. This can be done via email, posted or dropped off in person. 

STEP FOUR: PLACEMENT ASSESSMENT TESTING

Once we have received the complete application someone from our friendly admissions team will contact you to set a placement test date and time. Don’t be overly nervous for this test it’s really more of an assessment than a test and ALL SSIS students are required to attend. Once the assessment is complete we will email you regarding the outcome of placement testing. For those accepted into our school orientation will be scheduled. 

STEP FIVE: ORIENTATION DAY

Orientation is an opportunity for new students and their parents to get better acquainted with SSIS. Students will meet their homeroom teachers, get the chance to see where their classes are and take a tour of the school. Bus information, uniforms, lunch accounts and laptops (for Grade 5 and above) will also be organized.

STEP SIX: WELCOME TO SSIS AND THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Every new Elementary and Secondary student is assigned a buddy – another student who has been new once too. This new friend is there to help make the transition into a new school a bit easier. Welcome!
